Describe how the body and brain can be damaged from the use of too much alcohol.

In a five-page essay, you will discuss the influence that alcohol has had on societies and individuals.

Alcohol addiction is a common malady across many countries and cultures in the world. Some cultures encourage the use of alcohol as a part of social ritual while others ban its use entirely. In this assignment, you will conduct research on one of the following cultural groups to understand their use of alcohol. Select one group from the following choices: Native Americans, Eastern European, Western European, Saudi Arabian, or South Koreans. Your paper must use one of the listed populations to earn credit.

In the first part of the paper, explain how alcohol affects the body/brain. Summarize the dangers of alcohol abuse on individuals and society. Then, in the second part of the paper, describe alcohol use in a specific culture . Use the Library to find at least three studies of alcohol use by the chosen culture. Explain how members of that culture view alcohol use, alcoholism, and treatment for alcoholism.

In the second part of the paper, provide examples of how members of the selected culture transmit their attitudes about alcohol to other members of their culture. Find examples of advertising, traditions, and/or stories that either encourage or discourage the use of alcohol. How do these messages influence the trends of use in that society?

Explain how alcohol use has either served or hurt the people in your selected cultural group. .

Focus your paper on the following ideas:

Part One (at least two pages)

  1. Describe how the body and brain can be damaged from the use of too much alcohol.
  2. What are the dangers of addiction for individuals and society?
  3. Evaluate the ethics of Antabuse (Disulfiram) prescription with clients diagnosed with Alcohol Use Disorder, severe.

Part Two (at least two pages)

  1. Provide a specific example of how members of one of these cultural groups (Native Americans, Eastern European, Western European, Saudi Arabian, or South Koreans)) communicate their beliefs about alcohol to encourage or discourage drinking (e.g. cultural norms). Then, describe how those messages help to form the beliefs about alcohol and treatment of the selected group.
  2. Research the trends of use in the selected culture (within the last twenty years). Describe the rates of use and treatment (e.g. increase or decrease) and explain why the rates have changed or stayed the same.
  3. In the summary, provide reflection about how the personal beliefs and values of the addiction professional impacts treatment of members of the selected group.

Each paper should include:

  • A title page
  • The paper itself (the “discussion”) body of the paper
  • Citations formatted according to the most recent edition of the APA manual
  • Use standard margins: 1″ on all sides.
  • Use standard 12-point font size, Times New Roman or Arial.
  • Use standard double-spacing: average of 22 lines per page, and between 20 and 24 lines per page.
  • Use left-aligned text. Do not right-justify.
  • A reference page

Explain the specific problems that exist in treating the dual diagnosed (e.g. setting for treatment, interventions, medical treatment).

Co-Occurring  clients are often in treatment for substance use and mental health disorders. Their treatment is trickier than those who only have one of these disorders. For this assignment, you will research the complicated relationship between mental health and substance use disorders. For example, clients diagnosed with mood disorders often turn to alcohol or illicit substances to regulate their moods.

Select one of the hypothetical client scenarios. Briefly summarize the scenario and propose some health problems that the client might have as a result of his/her illicit drug/alcohol use. Research the interaction between the drug use and the mental health disorder use your textbook and three other academic sources to support your ideas. Explain how the drug directly affects the person’s nervous system.

First Part: Select a scenario

Darren

Darren is a 24-year-old male who was diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder (ADHD) and Bipolar Disorder. He was diagnosed with ADHD at age seven by pediatric neurologist and started to take stimulants to reduce the impulsivity. During his late high school years, he became violent with his mother. He suffered mood swings that did not seem related to the ADHD. His psychiatrist and psychologist added Bipolar Disorder to his diagnosis. He was prescribed antidepressants in addition to his other medications.

He was able to develop skills to manage his attention without medication. He stopped taking stimulants for his ADHD. However, he continued to take medications for the Bipolar Disorder diagnosis. These included Abilify and Clonidine. Darren did not like taking either of those drugs, so he began to experiment with using a combination of marijuana and cocaine to manage his moods. Darren is now addicted to using marijuana and feels that he cannot function without it.

Darren needs treatment for his drug use, but will also need help with his bipolar disorder symptoms too. He lives with a girlfriend who has threatened to move out if he does not get treatment soon. He wants to change, but insists that his marijuana use is the only thing that stabilizes his moods.

Rhonda

Rhonda is a 32-year-old mother of two young children who has a history of depression (including post-partum) and alcoholism. She smokes two packs of cigarettes a day and drinks the equivalent of two bottles of wine a day. She was initially diagnosed with depression as a teenager. From the age of 13 to 18, she used self-injury to alleviate her stress and depression. She received treatment and stopped cutting. However, she began drinking and smoking in place of cutting.

Rhonda suffered intense periods of depression after the birth of both children. Her doctor prescribed Prozac and Wellbutrin at different times. She did not think that the medications worked very well, so she often took double doses of her medications along with wine. She continued to see a therapist during these times, but did not reveal that she was drinking.

Rhonda was referred to treatment because of a Driving Under the Influence arrest. She revealed that she has been drinking and smoking cigarettes throughout the day to treat her depression. She does not think that her medications work. Her husband will support her recovery as long as she promises to stop drinking and take her depression medication.

Part One (about two pages)

  1. Summarize the scenario explaining why the client is considered “dually diagnosed.”
  2. Using your research, explain the health problems that can occur from using the specifically mentioned illicit drug/alcohol. What are the effects on the body/brain?

Part Two (about two pages)

  1. Using your research, explain how the specific illicit drug/alcohol impacts the person’s mental health disorder (e.g. someone diagnosed with anxiety and takes a stimulant will have increased anxiety).
  2. Explain the specific problems that exist in treating the dual diagnosed (e.g. setting for treatment, interventions, medical treatment).

This is an essay so be sure you are weaving the answers to the questions into a well-written academic essay. The viewpoint and purpose should be clearly established and sustained. The writing should be well ordered, logical and unified, as well as original and insightful. The essay should be 1200 words (not including the title and reference page) supported by current research, and formatted according to the most recent edition of the APA manual.

You must demonstrate college-level communication through the composition of original materials in Standard English

Examine current assessments in applicant selection and employee evaluation.

I need about 150 words for each question. I want each question with its references, and please, no plagiarized work.

MODULE 1

Topic 1: Analyzing and Interpreting Psychosocial Assessments

DQ 1

One of the most important applications of I/O psychology is assessment in the workplace. Assessment includes applicant selection and employee evaluation. What factors should be considered in choosing an appropriate assessment? Using current research, argue why assessment is important and discuss factors that impact assessment in selection or in development.

DQ 2

Any form of assessment must be valid and reliable. Given your understanding of validity and reliability, what are factors that influence interpretation of assessment? Is this a problem? Is it a more significant problem in some domains over others? Justify your answer.

MODULE 2

Topic 2: Types of Tests and Test Selection

DQ 1

Selection of criteria for assessment is an important issue for I/O. It is not a simple issue and it moves beyond simply examining reliability and validity. Using criterion theory and development, defend good characteristics, acceptable criteria, and methods for choosing the appropriate test?

DQ 2

Examine current assessments in applicant selection and employee evaluation. Using current research and a set of criteria, argue why one assessment in applicant selection and one assessment in employee evaluation would be the most appropriate?

MODULE 3

Topic 3: Assessments to Describe Work and the Worker Attributes Needed to Perform the Work

DQ 1

The goal of job and task analysis is to obtain quantifiable and descriptive information to describe work and worker behaviors as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for the work. Argue for specific steps that must be in place and the type information that must be gathered. Does this differ depending on the type of work? What factors must be considered?

DQ 2

As corporations become more international and have the influence of many cultures, argue whether this affects assessment of the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the work? How does culture influence work attributes? Is it a factor that should be considered in assessment? Justify your answer.

MODULE 4

Topic 4: Using Assessment in Work Analysis

DQ 1

Poorly designed appraisal systems often have negative consequences. Compare and contrast the rating approach to work performance assessment. Argue for the best ratings approach (consider: BARS, checklists, employee comparison procedures, graphic ratings scales, etc.).

DQ 2

Examine current performance appraisal research and the focus on the social-psychological context of work performance appraisal. How does social-context impact performance appraisal and feedback for improving work performance?

MODULE 5

DQ 1

There are several personality inventories including: Predictive Index, Myers-Briggs, and the Kiersey Temperament Sorter. Each inventory has varying empirical support within the literature indicating the impact of personality on performance success. Argue for the most appropriate test given the characteristics of the test and discuss how this test will differ for men or women.

DQ 2

Is it legal and ethical to use personality inventories for employee selection, predicting performance, and assessment of work attitudes? Justify your answer.

MODULE 6

Topic 6: Assessment of Leadership

DQ 1

360-degree feedback of leader behavior is the most popular approach to leader development. Does it lead to change in leader behavior and employee behavior? Is it an effective tool?

DQ 2

Current trends point to the use of 360-degree feedback for development and performance. Opponents of this approach argue that using 360-degree feedback for performance can lead to perceived threat or vulnerability and an adversarial relationship. Is using 360-degree feedback for performance justified? Should it be used only for development and learning?

Additionally, identify any strengths that may still exist with its use regardless of the opposition.

This assignment is a culmination of the previous assignments you have completed during this course. In this assignment, you will synthesize your previous research as well as conduct research on the final element in the Code, Element 9. Element 9 states that a test user, “evaluate(s) the available evidence on the performance of test takers of diverse subgroups . . . determine(s) to the extent feasible which performance differences may have been caused by factors unrelated to the skills being assessed.” Together, the previous course assignments and this current one involving Element 9 will provide you with the data, research, and literature reviews across all nine elements of the Code to assist your decision-making process about the appropriate selection of a test.

For this final assignment:

  • Locate reviews or research related to how Element 9 applies to your selected test. If the research or reviews do not address this element in any way, then you will need to cite the references you reviewed and note that they were lacking in in addressing this element, drawing appropriate conclusions for when a test is lacking such evidence.
  • Synthesize all of the data and information you gathered on your selected test throughout the course and identify highlights, both positive and negative, both advantages and disadvantages, according to all nine elements of the Code. See the link in the resources about the Meaning of Synthesis.
  • Evaluate your selected test based on these data and draw a conclusion about whether it is a test that you would select, recommend, or even defend, if necessary in practice. Note: You should not merely copy and paste your earlier assignments for the final paper. Instead you will be synthesizing the research you completed for each element into a summary of that element that you will offer in support of your final evaluation. (For example, note that the technical quality element (that is, Element 5) will be only a synthesis and evaluation and not a repeat of the annotated bibliography you completed in Unit 5.)
    • Identify the strengths or weaknesses for each element, and determine if the information about that element supports (or opposes) the use of your selected test in the field and population to be served.
    • Incorporate recommendations about ways to improve the selected test.
    • Review all of your evaluations for each element and recommended improvements to the test, and write an overall evaluation and determination about the use of your selected test. Would you recommend this test to a school district or business that you are employed as a consultant? Would you be able to defend the use of this test in a court proceeding?

Organize your paper using the following headings:

  1. Title page (required). (One page.)
  2. Abstract (required). (One page.)
  3. The Code of Fair Testing Practices in Education. (A minimum of four pages. For each element, identify strengths and weaknesses, evaluate the selected test for the element, and make recommendations, if any for improvement, citing appropriate standards of practice.)
    • Element 1. Purpose: Define the purpose for testing, the content, and skills tested. (See Unit 2 assignment.)
    • Element 2. Appropriateness: Evaluate appropriateness of test content, skills tested, and content covered. (See Unit 2 assignment.)
    • Element 3. Materials: Evaluate materials for which clear, accurate, and complete information is provided. (See Unit 2 assignment.)
    • Element 4. Training: Test users have appropriate knowledge, skills, and training. (See Unit 2 assignment.)
    • Element 5. Technical Quality:
      • Synthesis of evidence of reliability. (See Unit 5 assignment.)
      • Synthesis of evidence of validity. (See Unit 5 assignment.)
    • Element 6. Test Items and Format: Evaluate test items, test format, directions, manuals and scores, and address the use of computer technology. (See Unit 7 assignment.)
    • Element 7. Test Procedures and Materials: Evaluate test procedures and materials to ensure that potentially offensive content or language is avoided. (See Unit 7 assignment.)
    • Element 8. Modifications and Accommodations: Evaluate if tests provide appropriately modified forms or procedures for test takers with disabilities. (See Unit 7 assignment.)
    • Element 9. Group Differences: Evaluate evidence on performance of test takers of diverse subgroups.
  4. Summary. (Two pages.)
  5. Overall recommendation to use the selected test in the field and with populations to be served.
    • If recommending the use of the selected test, identify the greatest strengths you discovered and determined in its use. Additionally, identify any limitations or concerns that may still exist with its use regardless of the recommendation. Are there still concerns for the test in certain situations?
    • If not recommending the use of the selected test, identify the greatest weaknesses you discovered and determined in its use. Additionally, identify any strengths that may still exist with its use regardless of the opposition. Are there still uses for the test within set parameters?
  6. References (required, use current APA format and style).

Additional Requirements

Your paper should meet the following requirements:

  • References: A minimum of nine references. These may include journal articles, literature reviews, MMY reviews, and publisher websites. At least five of the nine references must be from professional journals. It is likely and appropriate that many of these references and citations were included in one or more of your previous assignments. Alternatively, you may want to supplement your paper with current, peer-viewed journal articles you located after completing an earlier assignment. Those inclusions would also be acceptable.
  • Length of paper: At least six pages (not including title page, abstract, or references).

Note: The articles you need to complete this assignment should be available inside the library collection. In future courses, you may use the Capella library’s Interlibrary Loan service to obtain articles outside of the collection, but you should not have to use the service for this course. In the event that you cannot find articles covering a newer test edition, please refer to the List of Tests by Type document in the resources. Note which tests have been designated as acceptable for searching prior test editions.

Explain at least one conclusion you drew or insight you gained as a result of your comparison.

The many different forensic treatment settings – prisons, jails, outpatient settings, community centers, and specialized treatment centers – provide many employment opportunities. Even within these settings, there are specific and differing programs that operate. For instance, a prison might operate a drug treatment program styled as an outpatient program, a residential drug treatment facility, a sex offender program, and general outpatient services, all in the same facility. In the outpatient setting, a forensic psychologist practitioner might be called on to conduct anger management groups, domestic violence groups, substance abuse services, and follow-up services with sex offenders after release. The diversity of practice experiences within the forensic system is impressive and sometimes even overwhelming.

But not every setting is right for every therapist. Some forensic treatment professionals are comfortable entering any correctional facility, while others might be more comfortable working at one security level but not another (e.g., a low-security facility might be more preferable than a maximum-security facility). There are forensic treatment professionals who find forensic outpatient settings similar to traditional outpatient practice and, therefore, more familiar and comfortable. It is important to assess and understand your own comfort level with the various forensic treatment settings before entering them and starting along your career path. One way of doing this is to consider the various settings and compare them based on external dimensions of forensic treatment. For example, how do the available resources compare between a maximum-security prison and a juvenile detention center? Are the practice challenges similar across the various treatment settings, or do certain challenges inhibit effective practice in one setting more than others? These kinds of comparisons can help you understand the potential challenges in a desired forensic setting. Comparing forensic settings can also provide you with possible interest in settings not previously considered, and inform you as to how external factors can impact your professional goals.

To prepare for this assignment:

  • Review the article “Systemic Issues and Correctional Outcomes: Expanding the Scope of Correctional Psychology” in this week’s Learning Resources. Focus on forensic treatment setting issues. Note the various external dimensions of forensic treatment for each setting.

  • Review Chapter 1 in the course text Correctional Counseling and Treatment. Consider which types of treatment occur most frequently in specific forensic treatment settings.

  • Review Chapter 18 in the course text Handbook of Forensic Mental Health with Victims and Offenders: Assessment, Treatment, and Research. Think about the treatment challenges in correctional forensic facilities.

  • Select two forensic treatment settings to compare in this assignment.

  • Select two of the following external dimensions of forensic treatment settings to use in your comparison: social support, available resources, access to treatment, and/or challenges to practice.

  • Think about the similarities and differences between the settings in terms of external dimensions of forensic treatment settings.

The assignment (1–2 pages):

  • Identify the two forensic settings and the two external dimensions of forensic treatment you selected.
  • Compare (similarities and differences) the settings in terms of the external dimensions of forensic treatment settings you selected.
  • Explain at least one conclusion you drew or insight you gained as a result of your comparison.

Explain the fundamental ways in which effectively applying critical thinking concepts has helped you to become more successful

Search online for your local news website and locate local a story where you believe an ethical dilemma is going on. Please keep this story local and not national news.

Explain, in a few sentences the story, the ethical dilemma you believe is going on in the story, and how you think it can be resolved.

Then comment on at least one other student’s post and solution.

Please include a link to the story in your original post.

Question 2

Throughout this term, we’ve strived to expand your personal thought processes. Using the week 10 sections of the WebText as your guide, how do you intend on altering your approach to problem solving in the future?

If you could select one (1) aspect that you encountered over this term, what would you tell a future PHI210 student is the most important aspect of this course? Why did you select that aspect of the course?

Question 3

Please respond to the following:

· First – Give your opinion on whether being an effective critical thinker makes decision making easier or more challenging. Talk about concrete decisions you had to or will have to make. Justify your response

· Second – Consider the following statement: “The major difference between a successful person and one that is not successful is that the successful person, over time, tends to make better decisions than the less successful person.” Discuss whether or not you believe this statement to be true. Explain the fundamental ways in which effectively applying critical thinking concepts has helped you to become more successful

which may be applied to potential work settings and/or doctoral programs?

Effective clinical innovations and the dissemination of research findings are key elements in the growth and development of the psychology profession. There are numerous avenues that enable authors to publish and present their work. Poster presentations at conferences are effective methods for communicating research findings and providing opportunities to meet with other researchers and clinicians to discuss the research being presented. Thus, these types of conference presentations play a key role in the proliferation of research.

In this week’s discussion, you will be submitting your proposal for the Week Five Virtual Conference. You may utilize relevant assignments from previous courses in this program or suitable projects from your professional life. See the PSY699 Call for Student Poster Presentations document for specific parameters and instructions on how to create your proposal. Following the guidelines presented in the document, create your proposal and attach it to your initial post in the discussion forum. Evaluate the impact participating in conference presentations may have on potential work settings and/or doctoral programs and comment on the following questions in your initial post.

How are conference presentations professionally relevant?

What elements of the proposal process were most difficult for you, and why?

What positive outcomes do you anticipate will come from this process, which may be applied to potential work settings and/or doctoral programs?

Discuss the importance of establishing trust in virtual teams.

Organizations often use teams to achieve work goals. Virtual teams are becoming increasingly common across industries. Research suggests that trust is an important state to cultivate in virtual teams. In this assignment, you will research and present best practices for effective communication for establishing trust in virtual teams.

I/O psychology professionals often present their findings through PowerPoint presentations. For this assignment, you will create a 10–15 slide narrated PowerPoint presentation covering best practices for effective communication in establishing trust in virtual teams. You should develop this presentation as if you were going to present it to managers who are interested in using virtual teams and narrate the presentation using an audio component.

To prepare for this assignment, you should study relevant research on this topic. Review your course readings, as well as journal articles to identify best practices for effective communication for establishing trust in virtual teams. Include the following in your presentation:

  • Discuss characteristics of virtual teams.
  • Discuss the importance of establishing trust in virtual teams. Present evidence supporting your main ideas.
  • Considering what you have studied about communication in general, communication in teams, and virtual teams, how should virtual team members communicate with one another to increase trust?
    1. Present three communication approaches or strategies that are likely to increase trust in virtual teams.
    2. Present evidence to support why each approach would be effective.

Other Requirements

You should apply APA Style formatting throughout your presentation, including in-text citations and a references slide.

Your presentation should include 10–15 slides (not including the title slide or references slide). You should also include an introduction and summary slide. Demonstrate best practices for effective PowerPoint presentations (see Resource).

Cite a minimum of four relevant empirical research and scholarly articles within I/O psychology and related areas. You should cite peer-reviewed journal articles that were published within the last five years. Carefully select sources after reviewing the literature and evaluating the credibility, relevance, quality, and research merit of each source.

Here are a few examples of peer-reviewed journals that publish reputable research in I/O psychology:

  1. Journal of Applied Psychology
  2. Personnel Psychology
  3. Academy of Management Journal
  4. Academy of Management Review
  5. Journal of Management

Are adolescents from single-parent homes at higher risk of suicide than those from two-parent homes?

Begin by exploring topics in developmental psychology. Reference your textbook, the weekly introductions in your course, and reputable journal articles to explore topic ideas. Be sure to choose a topic that you are highly interested in. From that topic, you will pose a question for your research.

For example, you may find interest in the life span of adolescence. From there, you may want to explore issues related to adolescent suicide. From this topic you could pose a number of questions to research, such as:

1. Are adolescents from single-parent homes at higher risk of suicide than those from two-parent homes?

2. Does lack of play in childhood lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?

3. Does “helicopter parenting” lead to anxiety and depression in adolescence?

How to Develop a Research Question

Your research question should enable you draw some unique conclusions so that you are not simply reporting on research that has already been concluded. You may have to do some preliminary research within your topic to determine a suitable question. Here are some examples.

This example is too broad and will likely lead to a confusing and disorganized paper. It lacks parameters.

Why do adolescents commit suicide?

This example is too narrow. It can be answered rather simply with some basic data.

How many adolescent suicides occurred last year?

A good research question specifies the parameters of the research, yet leaves room for analysis and the writer’s unique input.

What are some of the unique social factors that led to an increase in suicide rates among 13- to 18-year-old females in 2015?

(In your paper, you would define two to three social factors you deem significant and connect them with the appropriate physical, cognitive, and socioemotional occurrences happening during this part of life span development. Then, draw your own conclusions from the research you find.)

Once you have your research question, phrase it as a statement so that it can become your thesis statement. The thesis statement is what drives the direction of your paper. To learn more about thesis statements click the link below.
